What is Botox?

Younger looking skin in one simple step!

Botox Anti-Wrinkle Injections also known as Botulinum Toxin or Muscle Relaxants is a highly sought-after minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that offers a quick and relatively painless solution to reduce the visible signs of aging. As the world’s leading facial treatment for lines and wrinkles, Botox helps us achieve a more youthful and revitalized appearance. Introduced in the late 80s in the UK, its popularity has soared, safely treating millions of women and men each year. Extensive research culminated in the FDA’s approval of botulinum toxin in 1989 for targeting wrinkles and fine lines through wrinkle injections.

The treatment involves precise and painless injections of purified natural protein into specific areas of the skin and muscle. By temporarily relaxing the muscles underneath the skin, which are responsible for the lines resulting from repetitive facial expressions over time, Botox effectively softens these lines. Moreover, this muscle relaxation offers relief for various conditions, including chronic migraines, facial lines, excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), and certain muscular disorders.

We offer a range of specialized muscle relaxant injectables that effectively disable specific muscles causing wrinkles and creases. These muscle relaxant injections typically provide results for approximately 3 to 6 months. Furthermore, they can be utilized to treat hyperhidrosis, teeth grinding, and prevent lips from curling under.

It is important to note that the effects of Botox are temporary, with an average duration of three to four months. As time passes, the treated muscles gradually regain their normal function, allowing the effects to gradually wear off.

Is Botox safe?
Botox injections are widely recognized as a safe procedure and have been utilized for numerous medical and cosmetic purposes for many years. They have received medical approval and boast a well-established safety record.
Nevertheless, it is crucial to acknowledge that, similar to any medical intervention, there are potential risks and side effects associated with Botox injections. Common side effects may include temporary redness, bruising, swelling, or soreness at the injection site. While infrequent, more severe side effects like muscle weakness or drooping can occur, although they are typically transient in nature.

Who is Botox for?
Anyone who is concerned about looking tired, prematurely ageing, deeper lines and wrinkles that are not responding to other treatments or skin care regimes. There are very few people who we don’t recommend it for such as in pregnancy, but otherwise most adult men and women are suitable. Make sure to read all contradiction list at the lower parts of this page.

Frequently
Asked
Questions

Botox is injected directly into the muscles that cause wrinkles, using a very small needle. Several injections are usually needed at specific sites, depending on the area being treated. When used to treat excessive sweating in the armpits, Botox is injected directly into the axillary skin. Localized discomfort and bruising can occur, but sedation or local anaesthesia is generally not required. Normal activities can be resumed immediately

Botox typically takes effect 24-72 hours after injection, reaching its maximum effect at around 1 to 2 weeks. Its effects generally last for approximately 3-4 months. When injected into the muscles that are responsible for expression wrinkles, it gives the face a more relaxed and smoother appearance. In some cases, longer-lasting effects (9-12 months) are observed after treating excessive sweating. When you notice a gradual fading of the treatment's effect, you may return to receive another treatment.

While Botox can be highly effective in reducing wrinkles caused by muscle contractions, it does not have an effect on reducing fine lines on the face caused by sun damage or lines resulting from sagging of facial skin. For these cases, we offer a range of wonderful treatments. Please contact us or browse our mesotherapy section for more information. In patients with deep lines, repeated treatments may be necessary to achieve the maximum effect. However, excessive, or frequent administration of Botox can lead to the patient developing resistance to the treatment due to antibody formation. Additionally, Botox treatment may exaggerate any facial asymmetry. Therefore, it is essential to always listen to your practitioner and avoid pressuring us into providing more treatments than necessary.

No severe complications have been reported in the literature following the cosmetic use of Botox. In very rare cases, excessive weakening of the target muscles and temporary paresis of adjacent muscles can occur, leading to facial weakness. This condition is self-limiting.

When injecting above the eyebrows, there is a slight risk (1 in 100 cases) of upper eyelid ptosis or mild drooping. This can be corrected using eyedrops and will also improve as the effects of Botox wear off.

As of 1st October 2021, in England, individuals must be at least 18 years old to receive Botox injections, regardless of whether they have the consent of a responsible adult. Most adults above the legal age can undergo Botox treatment, with some exceptions.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, it is advisable to avoid Botox, although no known dangers have been identified thus far. Other common instances where Botox should be avoided include having any neuromuscular conditions or taking specific medications such as amino glycoside antibiotics.

The recommendation for Botox treatment is typically made on a case-by-case basis, taking into account individual requirements and reactions. It is contraindicated for individuals who are allergic to components of the botulinum toxin, those with body dysmorphic disorder, and individuals with keloidal scarring, among others. Please refer to the full list of contraindications located just above the FAQ section.

Once you have completed your initial research and are interested in starting Botox injections, it is crucial to schedule an initial consultation with us. Botox is not a one-size-fits-all treatment, and the consultation will allow you to address any concerns or queries you may have regarding the procedure. Additionally, it provides an opportunity for us to recommend a suitable treatment plan based on factors such as your reasons for opting for Botox, your age, complete medical history, and desired outcomes. In addition to the health assessment, you will need to demonstrate your natural facial expressions to the professional so that they can identify the specific areas where the injections should be administered.

Your treatment will be tailored specifically to your requirements based on the information provided during your initial consultation. Botox, which comes in a powdered form, is mixed with saline and refrigerated before the injection. A qualified facility will ensure the perfect mixture, ensuring that the Botox remains in its intended location.

During the actual treatment, Botox is injected using a very fine needle just beneath the surface of your skin. This process typically does not cause bruising unless the needle accidentally hits a blood vessel. In such cases, mild bruising may occur around the injection site, but it usually fades naturally within a few days.

The toxin generally takes around 24-72 hours to take effect. The time it takes for the full effects to become visible varies for each individual. The number of injections required will depend on various factors, including the extent of the area being treated.

There is typically no significant recovery period or downtime required after receiving Botox injections. You can generally resume normal activities immediately, with the exception of engaging in strenuous exercise. As a precautionary measure, you may be advised to keep your head upright and avoid massaging the injected areas. Please ensure that you read the after-treatment section located just above this FAQ section for further information.

When considering cosmetic procedures like Botox, it is always advisable to seek the expertise of an experienced practitioner. By doing so, you can have peace of mind knowing that they possess the necessary knowledge and skills to ensure a safe and effective treatment. Experienced practitioners understand the precise mixture of Botox to saline, and they prioritize maintaining the appropriate standards without cutting corners.

Moreover, an experienced practitioner will determine the correct number of injections needed for your specific case and will administer them in the appropriate manner. This helps to minimize the likelihood of experiencing bruising or other potential side effects. Choosing a skilled and knowledgeable practitioner enhances the overall safety and success of your Botox treatment.

In most cases, Botox treatment does not result in any side effects. However, due to individual variations in physiology, some people may experience different effects. A small minority of individuals have reported the following side effects:

  • Bruising: The majority of patients will not experience any changes in the injection area. However, a small number of individuals may experience minor bruising.
  • Bumps: Shortly after treatment, some individuals may notice small bumps on the skin. These bumps typically disappear quickly.
  • Headache: True allergies to Botox are extremely rare. The most commonly reported symptom following anti-ageing injectables is a temporary headache. However, the number of patients who report headaches is very small compared to the number of treatments performed. Any headache can be treated with over-the-counter painkillers.

It is important to note that these side effects are generally mild and transient. Most individuals undergoing Botox treatment do not experience any adverse effects.

Patients can typically resume their normal daily activities immediately after receiving Botox treatment. Light exercise can be performed after 4 hours, but it is advisable to avoid strenuous activities for 24 hours.

After a 4-hour period, you may engage in light exercises such as walking, jogging, upright yoga (avoid positions that involve lying flat or being upside down), gardening

However, it is recommended to wait for 24 hours before attempting any strenuous exercise after Botox, which includes activities such as weight training, cross-training, long-distance running, yoga positions where the body is inverted

By following these recommendations, you can ensure the best results and minimize any potential risks associated with exercising too soon after Botox treatment.

It is advisable to limit alcohol consumption in the first 24 hours following Botox treatment, as well as the day prior to the treatment. Alcohol can thin the blood, similar to aspirin, and abstaining from alcohol can help reduce the risk of bruising. By avoiding alcohol during this period, you can help promote optimal healing and minimize the potential for bruising at the injection sites.

In general, side effects from Botox injections are rare, and the recovery process is typically quick. Your practitioner will be available to address any questions or concerns you may have regarding minor side effects, such as bruising or headaches. It is important to communicate any unusual symptoms or concerns to your practitioner, as they are there to support you throughout the process and ensure your comfort and well-being.

Yes, after receiving Botox treatment, your face should not feel excessively sore or tender. You can continue with your regular skincare regimen, including washing your face as usual. However, it is recommended to avoid rubbing or massaging your face for up to 4 hours following the treatment. This precaution helps to ensure that the Botox remains in its intended location and maximizes the effectiveness of the treatment.

Correct. Botox does not build up or accumulate in your system over time. We recommend scheduling treatments approximately every 12-16 weeks, once the effects of the previous treatment have worn off. It is safe to have additional treatments in the same area once the effects have faded.

While it is also safe to have multiple treatments in different areas simultaneously, it is important to adhere to the recommended treatment schedule. We do not advise frequent or excessively early top-up treatments, and we will not perform them if we believe it is too soon for your next treatment. Following the recommended treatment intervals ensures the optimal results and safety of your Botox treatments.

Once the treatment wears off, your muscles will function as they did before the injectables. This means that the wrinkles you smoothed or reduced will slowly begin to appear again. You will simply witness old wrinkles reappearing, and no new wrinkles should emerge.

Yes. Ideally, avoid make-up for an hour or so. However, mineral make-up can be applied immediately after BOTOX. Again, it is recommended that you do not apply too much pressure during these activities in order to ensure that the injectable treatment does not disperse from the treated area.

The results of Botox injections typically become noticeable within 3-5 days to two weeks after treatment. A follow-up session is scheduled during this time to review the technical and aesthetic outcomes of the treatment.

Yes, patients who have received anti-wrinkle injections will not experience any adverse effects while flying. These injections are not affected by changes in altitude or cabin pressure, so there is no need to be concerned about the treatment while traveling by air.

We are always available to address any concerns you may have regarding the aesthetic outcome of your treatment. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or require further assistance. We are here to ensure your satisfaction and provide support throughout your aesthetic journey.

Botulinum Toxin injections consist of a safe, naturally purified protein. A course of treatment has little impact on usual day-to-day activity and will not affect your sleeping patterns. To allow the BOTOX injectables to settle, you should avoid putting pressure on the treated area or laying on your front for around four hours.

It is advisable to refrain from rubbing the Botox treatment area for up to 4 hours after the procedure. This includes avoiding any gentle rubbing typically associated with facial treatments. Additionally, we recommend avoiding facials within 24 hours after the Botox procedure. These precautions help to ensure that the Botox remains undisturbed in the treated area and allows for optimal results.

It is generally recommended to wait for about four hours before lying down after receiving Botox treatment. This precaution is taken to minimize the risk of Botox migration and to help prevent bruising. By waiting for this period of time, you can allow the Botox to properly settle in the treated area and reduce the chances of any undesired effects.
